These courses are aimed at government officials, senior military and police officers, NGOs and leaders in political and civil society who are involved or potentially involved in multinational conflict resolution and peace missions in SADC member states.

They are aimed at:

  • enhancing participants' conceptual, analytical, management, and planning skills;
  • exploring key issues surrounding the planning and management of peace missions; and
  • providing an environment in which key players involved in or likely to be involved in peace missions in southern Africa can interact in a structured way in order to enhance co-operative capacity-building for participation in peace missions.

The following modules are offered, from which courses can be designed according to participants' needs:

  • Introduction to multinational peace missions
  • The UN system
  • Planning a regional peace mission
  • The management of peace missions: case studies
  • Managing peace missions at regional and subregional levels: the OAU/AU and SADC
  • Post-conflict peace-building
